This is a mixed level four session Pottery Wheel Throwing course taught in tandem, two students to one instructor. Each session is two hours, once a week, taught at my studio in Simpsonville, in Whitehall Plantation. This course is for both students who have some knowledge of pottery wheel throwing or are beginners.
Adults and kids Ages 10 and up are welcome.
Session dates: Thursdays 3/27, 4/3, 4/10, 4/17
Beginners will learn the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel, see schedule below:
Session 1: Pottery basics, making bowls
Session 2: Cylinders, mugs with a handle
Session 3: Taller cylinders and vases
Session 4: Basics of the firing process, applying your glazes
Intermediate students will be learning how to throw with 2-4 lbs of clay, making larger forms such as larger bowls, plates, platters, planters, tall vases, as well as pottery wheel trimming. Glaze layering and surface decoration techniques will be discussed with any students that can throw larger forms.
*A customized curriculum can be tailored for any student with a great deal of pottery wheel throwing knowledge.
Pick up of glaze fired pieces will be approximately 2-3 weeks after final class. Price includes instruction, tools and materials, clay, glazes, and kiln firing fees. Intermediate level students will be offered open studio lab time during the duration of the four week course. These session are for trimming, glazing, or applying surface decoration to their pieces.
Classes are taught by a certified SC art educator with twenty years teaching experience. **Classes are non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged. Exact address of studio will be emailed upon enrollment.
